If you are not used to jet lag you may find yourself weirdly energized when you arrive even after that long flight - I find myself usually spacey as heck but not able to sleep but get very very sleepy around 4 in the afternoon and that's when I nap but for no more than 1 hour - putting the alarm across the room so I have to get up to turn it off. I had a rather lengthy delay last time in Milan on the train from Centrale to MXP - I was fine as I always plenty of time before a flight but there were some folks on that train really getting frantic - Just life stuff that can happen. You should also check that airline's website for when their cut off time is for checking in - some like EasyJet require you check in no later than 45 minutes before the flight and after that, they don't let you - the computer simply doesn't allow it - so check that requirement. for your other flight - you never know how long security is going to take - I've had it take a very long time to a much shorter time. Nothing around the airport and I'd definitely get there before 7 p.m.
If I can’t check in at 10 AM, I’d rather spend that time on a train than waiting in a hotel lobby. If that’s not possible, perhaps I’d be better off heading straight into the city and getting an early check-in around 11 AM or noon. This is all based on the hope that I can get a 10 AM check-in and sleep for a few hours.

I’m not particularly into tourist attractions, but I’d like to have a great meal and get a brief glimpse of Milan, but I didn’t anticipate it taking a full 2 hours to get from MXP into the city. With the few hours I have left, I’m wondering whether it makes sense to spend 2 hours traveling to Milan and back, leaving just a couple hours to explore, or whether it makes sense to head to a nearby town where I could get there more quickly and have 3-4 hours to actually see the area. (Is a possible/likely to get a check-in that early near the airport? I’m hoping so.)
I’m tentatively planning to book a room at an airport hotel and ask for an early 10 AM check-in so I can sleep for a few hours, then head out to explore for a few hours. My concern is whether I have enough time to justify a trip into Milan, given that I’ll likely need a few hours of sleep once I arrive. (Does this sound about right?) I’m not sure how busy this airport is or how early I’ll need to be there for my flight out.

I imagine I should be through customs by 10 AM and will need to be back at the airport to check in for my flight by 7 PM, leaving roughly 9 hours of free time. I’m arriving at MXP at 8:35 AM from the US in early April, then flying back out to Prague at 8 PM on Czech Airlines.
